Badge
Mentor Hike Leader
DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS
The holder of this badge can guide and evaluate a mentee hike leader through the new leader application process.
WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?
A mentor hike leader is responsible for guiding and evaluating a mentee hike leader through the new leader application process. This includes accompanying the mentee leader on one or more mentored hikes, where the mentee is largely in charge of the entire trip. The mentor observes the mentee’s performance and reports back to the mentee’s Hiking Committee.
Potential new trip leaders are encouraged to search for trip leaders who have the mentor badge, with the goal of identifying a mentor before beginning the application process.
HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?
Qualifications and prerequisites for becoming a mentor hike leader vary by branch. Often, active volunteer trip leaders in good standing who have led a minimum of six hikes for their respective Hiking Committee can be mentor leaders.
A hike leader interested in serving as a mentor leader should contact their branch's Hiking Committee Chair to be added to the mentor leader roster and receive the badge.
