Level 1 Avalanche Instructor
DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS
Current status as AIARE-certified Level 1 avalanche course instructor, together with strong experience and Mountaineers or equivalent training in the following: group leadership, safe travel techniques on snow, mountain weather, avalanche cause and effect, snow pack analysis, terrain recognition, trip planning, navigation, avalanche rescue, including beacon search, and mountain-oriented first aid.
WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?
Teach as an instructor at Mountaineers-sponsored Avalanche Level 1 courses offered by those Mountaineers branches which follow the AIARE Level 1 Avalanche curriculum (currently Everett, Seattle, Foothills, Tacoma).
HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?
Successfully complete AIARE Level 1 Avalanche Course, AIARE Level 2 Avalanche Course, AIARE Instructor Training Course (IRC).
Receive AIARE certification as Level 1 instructor and keep it current, which requires AIARE Instructor Refresher Course (IRC) every 3 years.
Plus receive Committee or Chair approval by Climbing, Backcountry Skiing, Snowshoe or Avalanche Committee of a branch following the AIARE Level 1 Avalanche curriculum.
