  • Basic Digital Mapping tools.
  • Recognize various components in the avalanche forecast and weather correlation.
  • Anticipate the use of avalanche gear and traction requirements for the intended travel.
  • Be able to note the important weather and avalanche forecast and past weather information affecting their backcountry travel.
  • Understand the limitations of their knowledge.
  • Recognize group dynamics and human factors.

Taking all the 4 classes in the Laying Track Series directly through NWAC qualifies as equivalency for this course. Members who have applicable experience and can demonstrate proficiency in the relevant skills can be accounted for missing classes in the Laying Track Series.
