DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS

The holder of this badge has successfully completed the Intro to Backcountry Skiing Course, and has demonstrated proficiency in the following skills:

  • Fundamental backcountry ski techniques including skinning and transitions
  • Proper use of avalanche, beacon, and probe
  • Avalanche rescue including searching and digging for buried skiers
  • An awareness of avalanche and terrain hazards
  • Avalanche awareness/avoidance
  • Avalanche rescue and beacon practice
  • Completed an AIARE 1 course within one year of finishing the course

WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?

HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?

To get this badge, you must complete The Mountaineers Intro to Backcountry Skiing Course. Additionally, you must obtain an AIARE Level 1 certification within one year of course completion before this badge will be awarded.
