Coastal Navigation Course

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS

The holder of this badge has successfully completed our Coastal Navigation for Sailors Course and/or has demonstrated proficiency in the following skills:

• Ability to read information from a nautical chart, both paper and electronic
• Ability to use speed, time traveled and distance traveled to plan a route 
• Use known landmarks, chart information and currents to determine and track your position
• Demonstrate the use of onboard electronics to communicate, determine water depth, boat speed and display position

WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?

 Take advanced courses in The Mountaineer's Sailing program and participate as a Navigator on Sailing trips

HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?

Prerequisite - Successfully complete our Basic Sailing Course, then

Complete requirements for the Coastal Navigation for Sailors Course

Equivalency - The Coastal Navigation for Sailors Course Badge may be granted to members who have applicable experience and can demonstrate proficiency in the relevant skills.  To connect with an equivalency coordinator at your branch, contact info@mountaineers.org.
