Mentor Stewardship Leader

The holder of this badge has been approved as a Mentor Stewardship Leader for The Mountaineers.

Description of Skills

The holder of this badge can guide and evaluate a Mentee Stewardship Leader through the new Stewardship Leader application process.

WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?

As a Mentor Stewardship Leader you are responsible for guiding and evaluating a Mentee Stewardship Leader through the new leader application process. This includes serving as the Stewardship Leader demonstrating and guiding the mentee leader on one or more stewardship activities, and accompanying and observing the mentee leader on one or more stewardship activities where the mentee is largely in charge of the entire trip. The mentor observes the mentee’s performance and reports back to the mentee’s Conservation & Stewardship Committee.

Potential new Stewardship Leaders are encouraged to search for trip leaders who have the mentor badge, with the goal of identifying a mentor before beginning the application process.

HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?

Qualifications and prerequisites for becoming a Mentor Stewardship Leader vary by branch. The Mentor Stewardship Leader must be a currently active stewardship volunteer trip leader in good standing who has led a minimum of four stewardship activities for their respective Conservation & Stewardship Committee.

A stewardship leader interested in serving as a mentor leader should contact the branch's Conservation & Stewardship Committee Chair to be added to the mentor leader roster and receive this badge.
