Summer Camp - Rainier 1 - Tacoma - 2023

Youth Program

Summer Camp - Rainier 1

Join us for overnight camp at our property on the NW corner of Mt. Rainier National Park! This week consists of one day of day camp in Tacoma, followed by 4 days/3 nights of hiking and camping.

This exciting week of Tacoma Summer Camp includes one day at our Program Center in Tacoma, followed by 4 days/3 nights camping at our property on the Carbon River near Mt. Rainier National Park!

Monday - We’ll spend some time getting to know each other with fun games and ice breakers! Then we’ll prepare for the week ahead by getting dialed in on our camp skills, such as setting up tents, cooking with stoves, filtering water. After a sack lunch down at the Tacoma waterfront, we’ll have some fun on the climbing wall, learn some wilderness first aid skills, and learn how to Leave No Trace while we’re in the wilderness. We’ll cap off the day with some fun games, and final prep for the trip.

Campers arrive Tuesday morning at 8:30 am sharp to prep all our gear and pack it all up. After morning activities and a quick lunch we'll be on our way to Rainier. Once camp is set up we will have time to explore the Carbon River before dinner. Our evening will be filled with stargazing, riddles and games, and desserts around the campfire.

Wednesday and Thursday will be all about exploring and getting great views of Mt. Rainier on some awesome day hikes! Hikes may include  Spray Falls & Spray Park, Eunice Lake, Tolmie Peak Lookout, Summit Lake, or Bearhead Mountain. We will split into younger and older groups, so we can go at an appropriate pace. We’ll cap off our hikes with some wading in Mowich Lake before we head back to camp for a hearty meal.

Friday begins with a big breakfast, camp cleanup, and one short final hike up the Carbon River before we head back to the Mountaineers in Tacoma. We typically arrive back in Tacoma between 3-4pm, with final pick up at 4:30pm.  We are so excited to share this adventure with you!

We would love to have 2 -3 parent chaperones/drivers for this camp. Please email sarahh@mountaineers.org if interested!
