Summer Camp - Rainier 2 - Tacoma - 2021

Youth Program

Tacoma Mountaineers Summer Camp

Rainier Week 2 - Join us for a full week of camp on our property outside Mt. Rainier National Park! 5 days, 4 nights.

This exciting week of Tacoma Summer Camp includes  5 days and 4 nights camping at our Irish Cabin property near Mt. Rainier National Park!

Monday - We’ll spend some time getting to know each other with fun games and ice breakers! Then we’ll prepare for the week ahead by learning about Mt. Rainier, and we'll get dialed in on our camp skills, such as setting up tents, cooking with stoves, filtering water. After a sack lunch down at the Tacoma waterfront, we'll load up the vans and head to the mountains! Once camp is all set up we will have time for some adventuring before dinner. Our evening will be filled with campfire, stargazing, songs and scary stories (but not too scary) of course!

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be all about exploring and getting great views of Mt. Rainier on some awesome day hikes! Hikes may include Chenuis Falls, Spray Park, Eunice Lake, Tolmie Peak Lookout, Bearhead Mountain, or Summit Lake. We will split groups into younger and older groups, so we can go at an appropriate pace for little legs. On shorter hike days, we'll also practice important wilderness skills, such as map reading and using a compass, wilderness first aid, and using the 10 Essentials. We’ll cap off our hikes with some wading or swimming in Mowich Lake or the Carbon River, before we head back to camp for a hearty meal.

Friday begins with a big breakfast, camp cleanup, and short skills session before we all hop back into the car to head back to the Mountaineers in Tacoma.  We will arrive back around 3-4pm with time to share our stoke with our families and get some climbing in.  We are so excited to share this adventure with you!

We would love to have 2-3 parent chaperones/drivers for this week. Please email sarahh@mountaineers.org if interested!
