Kids entering grades 1-7 (ages 6-12/13) join The Mountaineers for week-long adventure full of Mountaineers activities! Kids will have a chance to try a variety of outdoor activities, which may include: climbing, hiking, navigation, outdoor cooking, first aid, knots and rope skills, or basic wilderness skills. This week will focus on all-around outdoor skills. No prior outdoor experience is necessary!
Each week will include fun games and activities, outdoor skills development, all led by skilled instructors. While each session allows for plenty of climbing time, we mix up other outdoor skills so that each session, campers get to learn something new! Camp is Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm.
Basic schedule:
Monday: 8:30am - 4:30pm at the Tacoma Mountaineers Program Center. Day will include an introduction to the climbing wall and belaying skills, camp cooking skills, lunch at the beach, wilderness first aid, 10 Essentials training, games, and more.
Tuesday: 8:30am - 4:30pm at the Tacoma Mountaineers Program Center. Day will include more climbing on the rock wall and belaying practice, map and compass lesson, lunch in the park, wilderness rescue activity, Leave No Trace training, games and more.
Wednesday: Field trip day! We will travel to North Bend to hike Dirty's Harry's Balcony Trail. After the hike, we'll take a quick wade in the stream that runs past the trail - bring sandals and a swimsuit! Arrive at the Tacoma Mountaineers at 8:30am, and we will depart on our bus by 9am. Return to the Tacoma Mountaineers by 4:30pm for pickup.
Thursday: 8:30am - 4:30pm at the Tacoma Mountaineers Program Center. Day may include more first aid training, climbing on the rock wall, lunch at the beach, shelter building, navigation activity, wild animal safety, games, and more.
Friday: Point Defiance Day! Meet at Point Defiance Park between 8 - 8:30am at the Rustic Picnic area. We will spend the morning hiking and learning about nature, followed by beach time, games, and camper awards at Owen Beach in the afternoon. Pick up at Owen Beach between 4 - 4:30pm.
