Info
COVID-19: Learn about our most up-to-date guidance for participants and leaders on our COVID-19 Response page. All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before participating in this Mountaineers course.

Kids entering grades 1-7 (ages 6-12/13) join The Mountaineers for week-long adventure full of Mountaineers activities! Kids will have a chance to try a variety of outdoor activities, which may include: climbing, hiking, navigation, outdoor cooking, first aid, knots and rope skills, or basic wilderness skills.  This week will focus on all-around outdoor skills.  No prior  outdoor experience is necessary!

Each week will include fun games and activities, outdoor skills development, all led by skilled instructors. While each session allows for plenty of climbing time, we mix up other outdoor skills so that each session, campers get to learn something new! Camp is Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm.

Basic schedule:

Monday: 8:30am - 4:30pm at the Tacoma Mountaineers Program Center. Day will include an introduction to the climbing wall and belaying skills, camp cooking skills, lunch at the beach, wilderness first aid, 10 Essentials training, games, and more.

Tuesday:  8:30am - 4:30pm at the Tacoma Mountaineers Program Center. Day will include more climbing on the rock wall and belaying practice, map and compass lesson, lunch in the park, wilderness rescue activity, Leave No Trace training, games and more.

Wednesday: Field trip day! We will travel to North Bend to hike Rattlesnake Ledge or Twin Falls Trail. After our hike, we'll swim in Rattlesnake Lake - bring sandals and a swimsuit! Arrive at the Tacoma Mountaineers at 8:30am, and we will depart on our bus by 9am. Return to the Tacoma Mountaineers by 4:30pm for pickup. *Note: We will probably have the younger kids group go to Twin Falls, while the older kids group goes to Rattlesnake Ledge. You do not need to sign your child up for either right now - we will figure out logistics during the week of camp.

Thursday:  8:30am - 4:30pm at the Tacoma Mountaineers Program Center. Day may include more first aid training, climbing on the rock wall, lunch at the beach, shelter building, navigation activity, wild animal safety, games, and more.

Friday: Point Defiance Day! Meet at Point Defiance Park between 8 - 8:30am at the Rustic Picnic area. We will spend the morning hiking and learning about nature, followed by beach time, games, and camper awards at Owen Beach in the afternoon. Pick up at Owen Beach between 4 - 4:30pm.
