Intermediate Snowshoeing (old) - Field trip - Paradise Area (winter)

This is a makeup field trip for the Tacoma Intermediate Snowshoe course. Hands on practice of ice ax arrest skills, snowpack evaluation and avalanche rescue during a short snowshoe trek

  • Elevation Gain: 600 ft

Rendezvous: South Hill Park and Ride, Puyallup (corner of 94th St. SW & 104th St. E, Puyallup Puyallup Park & Ride)

  • Be at the Park and Ride around 7:00 AM and allow the whole day for the field trip.
  • We will head out at 7:30 AM and then rendezvous at Longmire before heading to Paradise.
  • All vehicles going to Paradise must carry chains.
  • Please consider driving if you feel comfortable with the conditions.
  • At the Park and Ride, students do gear self-check, leaders answer any last minute questions and everyone arranges carpools for the trip to Paradise.

You will be cold most of the day. Expect to be either laying in snow practicing ice axe arrest or standing at various stations with instructors. Plan accordingly.
