This will be an overnight clinic, in relatively benign conditions, teaching principals that you may apply to the conditions of your choice. We will cover basic kayak camping equipment (vs car camping), use of dry bags, how to pack your boat for proper trim, launching and landing a loaded boat, equipment requirements, and how to perform rescues with loaded boats. An online zoom meeting will be held between 6:30 and 8:30 June 18 to discuss equipment, packing, etc. before the trip. This will give participants time to purchase anything they need. It is meant for paddlers that have never kayak camped before...or even car camped before.
Practicing wet exits, and self and assisted rescues, is required for anyone using the paddle as a student paddle. Open to Mountaineers members only. As standard leader policy for all of my trips, please no alcohol or recreational pharmaceuticals.
The $20 fee covers a single night park camping fee. Campsites are already reserved for our group.
Pomeroy Park boat launch. Ready to paddle (suited, boats loaded, cars parked) at 11 AM.
