This will be a full day lecture and problem solving clinic. It should be taken only in conjunction with the on-the-water day the following day. If the student participates in both sessions, it will meet the requirements for the navigation clinic for the Intermediate Sea Kayaker badge.
We will expand on what you learned in the Basic Course regarding navigation.
Tacoma Program Center. We'll start at 9 AM, but please arrive early to help set up.
Required Equipment
Laptop or smartphone to access the internet.
Pencil/pen, note paper.
Handheld baseplate compass, such as a Brunton 7DNL or Suunto A-10, or similar. You do NOT want an orienteering compass that uses a mirror.
Maptech chart 100 (south puget sound) or similar. The maptech charts are waterproof, and will be used the following day for on-water use as well.
Bring a lunch, drink, and snacks. We will have a lunch break but you won't have enough time to visit a local establishment.
You must have a sea kayak badge, or a student badge to complete the clinic.
