Midweek long hike on one of my favorite trails! The first two miles of this trail is easy walking through rhododendrons. We may or may not climb the slag pile to see tubal caine mine (based on group interest) Past the mine, we will push on to buckhorn pass if the timing is right, wildflowers will distract you from EG. We can slow our pace for photos...but need to be mindful of time. Fortunately, we will be near summer solstice with maximum daylight hours. The distance noted is to buckhorn pass as the turn around. If it is somewhat pleasant and worth it, we can allow some time at the top for exploration.
I have reserved a campsite at John Wayne "resort" the June 8th (the night before) if anyone would like to join.
If you are committed to this hike, contact me to preregister carolyncarbajal.rn@gmail.com
Please be realistic about your fitness to walk 17.5 miles with 5000 feet EG before signing up. TY
John Wayne Marina Parking lot (just past Louella RD) 0830. The road to the trailhead is long, full of potholes, and better if done together (and driving directions downloaded).
