  • Please know that this is a very challenging hike for both distance and elevation. Also, given the shorter winter days, we don't have a lot of daylight to play with so our moving speed will likely be steady (1.8 mph) with fewer breaks so we can make it up & back in a timely manner. Mailbox Peak is a worthy challenge, with a real sense of accomplishment for those who are sufficiently fit. However, if Mailbox Peak is a goal for someone but perhaps their fitness is not quite there yet, best to wait until early summer when they have more daylight and better conditions to take on this challenge.

Ideally, we'll go up the old & down the new trail, making it a 9 mile hike with 3,915 ft of elevation.  If conditions aren't favorable then it's up & down the new trail, making it a 10 mile hike with 3,869 ft.
