  1. Safety lecture 
  2. Munter Mule Overhand (MMO), load transfers, and progression to “baseline” 
  3. Lowering from a top-manage site with a redirected plate 
  4. Releasing a loaded plate: Load Strand Direct (LSD) 
  5. Assisted raise (drop loop) 
  6. Unassisted haul in guide mode (3:1, 7:1 double mariner haul) 
  7. Tandem and counterbalance rappels, construction of a rescue spider 
  8. Rope ascent using a device in guide mode 

 Written homework assignment: For next session, describe a rescue situation that could not be safely managed with the techniques presented tonight? In what scenario(s) would the presented techniques be of limited or dubious benefit?

  • 6 medium to large locking carabiners 
  • 6 non-locking carabiners 
  • 2 cordelettes 
  • 4 double-length runners  
  • 2 prussik loops (autoblock), or 1 prussik loop and a Tibloc 
  • Guide style belay plate (BD ATC, Petzl Reverso) (Gri Gri or other assisted braking devices not allowed) 
  • Harness 
  • Short 30 meter half-rope (glacier rope) or scramble rope (ground school practice); one per 3-person team
    • ( Upon request the instructor can provide short practice ropes)
