Meet at the Concrete Beach Boat Launch just north of the Program Center at 10am.
There is plenty of parking either at the SPC or around the boat launch area.
The Explorers & Jr. MACers will spend the day learning sea kayaking skills such as paddle strokes, launching and landing, and wet exits. We will also paddle around the lake a bit.
- If you would like to bring your own kayak, you are welcome to do so. Just please email Farm at zacharyj@mountaineers.org so we can plan accordingly.
- Curriculum/Agenda: Sea Kayaking 101
- Weather: NOAA
In general for sea kayaking, expect to get wet and minimize feeling cold. At a minimum your feet and butt will get wet. You will also have the option to practice capsizing and re-entering boats (optional) which will result in getting totally soaked. People often underestimate how cold and uncomfortable being a bit wet makes them. No one will get turned away for not having wetsuits, but they are recommended--an accidental slip or tip is otherwise likely to end your day and derail things for the group.
