9am-2pm in Basement/South Plaza
Mountaineers Program Center, 9am-2pm. (FULL DAY)
This skill requires ample time to practice so we will use the full day. The morning will consist of Explanation, Demonstration, and Imitation. The afternoon will consist of Practice. Our goal is to prepare newer (freshman, sophomore) MAC students to go on multi-pitch climbs as followers and for senior MAC students (juniors, seniors) to lead multi-pitch routes - first on bolts and later on gear.
Prerequisites: All skills workshops so far including climbing 101 / lead climbing, anchors/cleaning routes, and rappelling. MAC members must attend at least one multi-pitch workshop in order to go on multi-pitch climbs at the Leavenworth Multi-Pitch weekend and alpine rock climbs during the summer. It is strongly encouraged to attend both multi-pitch climbing workshops (April & May) if space allows and to practice these skills at every opportunity, including especially the skills practice nights.
MAC members must understand that attendance at the multi-pitch workshop is a basic requirement for advanced climbs such as multi-pitch and alpine and does not guarantee access to these opportunities. Students must demonstrate proficiency in these skills before being allowed to go on advanced climbs and one workshop may be enough for some but not for others. Students are encouraged to practice as much as they need / as is possible.
