Field trip: GoWalk!: Beginner Urban Walking Series
November GoWalk! Urban Walks: 2 to 5 miles, 0 to 450 feet of elevation gain - Carkeek Park
GoWalk! Urban Walks are low-stress activities to help you determine where you are in terms of gear, the pace (1.5 - 2 mph) and distance you can complete comfortably, and what your season goals for conditioning and walking are. You decide what level of walks and pace are the best fit for you to sign up for - no pressure, no judgment!

We meet at the Eddie McAbee entrance parking lot (9am). Hopefully clocks have been reset for day-light saving fall back. We will walk at a casual pace (1.5 -2mph) in a general loop through the park for about 4 miles. We will take often breaks for observing the natural features. This walk is one of my favorite for seeing the returning salmon. We start by passing an historic orchard, then accessing a short hill to continue through forested areas (and then down). At our roughly half way, we will spend some time to admire the beaver ponds and see the first location of returning salmon as they fight their way up stream. Continuing on, we have an option of a short exploration of the railroad bridge over the tracks - this is dependent on the group. Pressing on we again traverse uphill through woods and eventually a short stair back to the valley center. There will be much better viewing of the salmon, before we head to our starting location.
Participation in at least 1 November Urban Walk is required for all GoWalk! participants.
November Urban Walks open for registration on Friday, October 3 at 6:00am. Register for only one walk in the first week. Registration for the second walk opens Friday, October 10. at 6:00am.
