Introduction to The Surf Zone

Clinic

Introduction to The Surf Zone - Hobuck Beach

This clinic will introduce students to the Surf Zone and teach them how to safely launch and land their kayak in surf no larger than 3 feet. We also teach students how to start surfing once they can safely manage the surf zone.

  • Moderate
  • Maximum Wind: 15 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 3 ft

Negotiating the surf zone can be exciting and anxiety provoking all at the same time. We will meet students where they are and give them the skills and support to safely launch and land in the surf.

We will firstly gain comfort in the waves before learning techniques to handle ourselves and equipment safely around others before venturing outside the break. We will learn how not to get surfed and still land and if conditions allow will start to learn the basics of surfing.

This class is part of the surf weekend. Times for meeting will be announced on the Friday evening, but generally we expect this class to run through early afternoon to give folks plenty of time to practice.
