Weekend Field Trip Olympic Rivers - Intermediate Whitewater Packrafting Course - Humptulips River (East Fork)

On this 2-day field trip to the Olympic peninsula we will paddle on two different rivers or river sections in order to demonstrate and practice the skills required of the Intermediate Whitewater Packrafting Course.

  • Class III River
  • Moderate

Participants and instructors are encouraged to carpool out on Friday night although driving out early Saturday morning will work.  It is expected that we return to the Seattle area late Sunday evening.

The 3 Olympic weekend trips will tentatively be located on the following rivers;

Option A:  Day 1: Dosewallips Canyon; Day 2: Dungeness lower reach

Option B:  Day 1: East Fork Humptulips Falls Section; Day 2: EF Humptulips Gorge Run and optional bonus trip down the Narrows Run.

Option C:  Day 1: North Fork Quinault from Salt Creek - note this requires hiking approximately 8 miles to the put-in; a suitable backpack to carry one's boat and paddling gear is required; Day 2: Wynoochee Gorge - note there is a mandatory portage around Landslide Rapid.
