Field trip: Intermediate Whitewater Packrafting Course

Day Field Trip Cascades Rivers - Intermediate Whitewater Packrafting Course - Sauk River: White Chuck River to Darrington

On this single day field trip to the Cascades we will paddle on a Class III river in order to demonstrate and practice the skills required of the Intermediate Whitewater Packrafting Course

  • Class III River
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 10.5 mi

It is expected that we return to the Seattle area late in the evening.  When conditions permit and based on instructor availability we will run trips on both Saturday and Sunday to provide students more opportunities to learn and practice the skills associated with the Intermediate Whitewater Packrafting Course.

The 3 Cascades day trips will tentatively be located on the following rivers;

Option A:  North Fork Nooksack - we will run 2 or 3 runs through the canyon from Horseshoe Bend campground to Glacier take out. Optional 2nd day down the Skagit S-Bends run.

Option B:  Stillaguamish South Fork from Boardman Creek to Verlot - Note: this section contains two significant Class III+ rapids, Wiley Rapid and Ski Jump, both of which can be portaged; Optional 2nd day: Sauk from White Chuck to Backman County Park.

Option C:  Snoqualmie Middle Middle from Island Drop One to Tanner - Note: this section contains House Rocks which can be Class IV in high water and can be portaged on a trail river right.  Optional 2nd day:  Skykomish North Fork from Trout Creek to the Confluence; Note: there is one significant Class III+ rapid, Llama Ledges at the bottom that can be avoided by taking out on river right by the Index climbing wall parking area.
