Gain confidence instructing the new workshop curriculum by attending this training session. You will also receive guidance on how to implement Gaia GPS. Not sure about that? Come and find out.
We'll review the Workshop from an instructor's point of view and give prospective module leads an opportunity to 'rehearse' their skills. There will also be plenty of opportunity for Q and A.
In 2019 we added Gaia GPS and Trip Planning to the course. We will assist you with setting up your own Gaia GPS as needed for instructing both the Workshop and Field Trip.
Please bring USGS Baring and Index maps, compass, smartphone, pencil, and paper for taking notes and a radio if you have one (capable of being set to channel 6-17) You will be going outside - bring a headlamp.
In order to attend, you'll need to be a Basic Navigation Course graduate or Equivalency Candidate. If your badge has expired, instructing is a great way to get it renewed. Also, as of 2019, instructing in our course will allow you to earn the Basic GPS badge. If you aren't yet trained on Gaia GPS and Trip Planning, we'll help you come up to speed.
Note: We have several dates for Instructor Training, some focused on the Workshop and some on the Field Trip. You need to register for Instructor Training, then choose the specific date when you want to participate, and sign up for that as well.
This course has no scheduled activities.
Bring your compass and maps (Index and Baring), headlamp, smart phone.
Instructions for setting up Gaia GPS will be in the Course Materials tab.
