This training prepares instructors to lead the Moss Workshop field trip with a shared understanding of what participants should gain from the experience.
We will begin by reviewing how the Moss & Lichen field guide is organized and how best to use it as a field tool rather than a checklist. Instructors will practice guiding participants in using a hand lens to observe important moss, lichen and liverwort characteristics when starting to make identifications. We will also talk about how to pace the field experience, gauge group dynamics, and introduce the material in ways that support learning without overwhelm.
As we walk the trails together, we'll identify effective locations for teaching and viewing with a small group. We will also consider how "Leave no trace" applies to the watershed environment while we're observing mosses and lichens along the trails.
This session offers an excellent opportunity for instructors to think through how best to shape the field experience in preparation for the Workshop field trip on February 28th.
Meet at the picnic table in front of the restroom building at 9:00 am.
Be sure to use the main entrance on Novelty Hill Rd. No parking pass required.
