Field trip: Introduction to the Natural World Course
Field Trip 3 - Seattle Naturalists Intro Natural World Course - DeRoux Creek
There are 2 options for this required field trip. This trip is part of the offerings for Option 1 and is in the Teanaway River area. 1. Ponderosa Pine Grasslands - Shrub-Steppe. We will be identifying the flowers, shrubs, and birds that inhabit the east slopes of the Cascades near Swauk Pass or Teanaway River area. Expect to spend a full day at this trip between the driving and the time hiking. When we hiked this trail last summer for this field trip we hiked 2.5 miles with about 250 feet of elevation gain - of course our mileage and experience may differ depending on what we are seeing.

Central Washington is often sunny when it is raining in Seattle. Plus it offers acres of beautiful wildflower meadows, making this an ideal field trip destination to practice identification of plants and birds. Also, many shrubs and at least nine kinds of trees are present.
Specific directions and times will be sent to registered participants a few days prior to the hike. Plan on meeting in the Teanaway River area near the Beverly Campground around 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
