Field trip: Pelagic Birds of Puget Sound
Bird Field Trip - Semiahmoo Bay
We will search Birch Bay, Semiahmoo Spit, and the area for birds, then work south, checking several other places along Puget Sound. This will be a good trip for comorants, sea ducks loons, and grebes. We might find a bunch of other good stuff, including gulls.

We will search for all birds, and a focus will be on birds that are in and around the Salish Sea. Expect to walk along the shore; we might walk in some sand. Bring rain gear and be prepared. Bring lunch, warm and cold drinks, snacks, and all the things to make for a great day.
Birch Bay and Semiahmoo Spit are often good places for less common, more open-water species.
We will go to Semiahmoo Spit second and bird it. After we finish, we will stop by the coffee shop at Simiahmoo Resort for a hot drink, maybe some soup, and to warm up. Then south along the coast.
We should head to Seattle around 4 PM, depending on the weather and birding. Plan for the entire day.
Meet: 6:40 AM at Ash Way Park and Ride – Southwest Corner.
We will form carpools. Be on the road by 6:45 AM.
8:30 AM to 8:40 AM, depending on traffic. The second meeting place will be near the Blaine Fishing pier. As you drive toward the pier, the last place on the left has a bathroom. We will meeet at the bathroom for a rest stop before moving to the pier.
Required Equipment
Binoculars, bring a scope if you have one. Bring warm clothes, layers, lunch, snacks, warm and cold drinks.
