New Hike Leader Seminar - Mountaineers Seattle Program Center
This 2.5 hour evening seminar provides experienced hikers information to help them become an effective hike leader for the Mountaineers. Participation in a minimum of 3 Mountaineers day hikes is a pre-requisite for taking the seminar. This seminar is one of the requirements to becoming an official hike leader for the club.

Seminar covers Mountaineers hiking classifications, posting hikes on the website, screening hike participants, responsibilities of hike leaders before, during, and after the hike; ensuring a safe and and enjoyable hike. There will be a lecture, small group work, and discussion of real-life scenarios encountered by hike leaders.
A collection of reference materials for use by new hike leaders is available on the Seattle Hiking Committee section of the Club website here. Participants are encouraged to review these documents before the seminar.
