Introduction to Hiking - Margaret's Way to Debbie's View

Margaret's Way threads it's way up the southwest aspect of Squak Mountain in Issaquah Alps. A mature forest and a variety of birds and other wildlife adds interest to this trail which ultimately connects with the Squak Mountain Trail System. A short side trip from the upper trail junction takes you to an overlook featuring May Valley and beyond including, on a clear day, a nice view of Mount Rainier.

A straightforward out-and-back hike up Margaret's Way Trail to Debbie's View, a viewpoint of Mt. Rainier. There is also another viewpoint midway up that offers a nice view out toward the Olympics.

This is a moderate hike that covers 6.9 mi, with an elevation gain of 1,640 ft. It takes about 4–5 hours to complete.  Debbie's View, a delightful lookout point with views of Mount Rainier and the surrounding foothills makes for a great rest/turn-around spot.   The hike will be led at a slower pace of 1.5 mph uphill and 2+ mph downhill.   If this is too slow for you, find another hike that is more to your liking.

Directions to the trailhead:

From I-90, take exit 15 signed Lake Sammamish/Renton Highway 900. At the stoplight at the end of the exit turn right onto Highway 900/Renton-Issaquah Road and go south toward Renton. From the stoplight drive 3.3 miles and there will be an easy-to-miss driveway on the left side of the road. Turn into this, which leads into the old Issaquah Highlands Recreational Club, where you will park to begin your hike.  No parking passes are required.

Plan to  arrive at the trail head by 7:30 am and be geared up and ready to discuss and organize our trip by 7:45.
