This is a 5.5 mile out-and-back hike along Dungeness Spit to the Lighthouse at the end where we will have lunch.  Am planning to take a free guided tour of museum and tower provided by the volunteer keepers here.

For this hike we have to be cognizant of the tides.  Ideally the hike would be done with a low tide of 1ft or less at the mid-point time of the hike.  On Aug 16 the low tide is at 12:20pm with a height of 1.7 ft.  Not ideal but doable - but given this I want to keep a minimum pace of 2 mph.  The spit does not get flooded over at high tide - you have to hike over rocks and driftwood which is not pleasant and takes longer.

We'll start the hike just after 9am aiming to arrive at the Lighthouse around 11:30am.  I would like to leave the Lighthouse no later than 12:30pm, getting back to the trailhead at 3pm.  The tides at 9am and 3pm are the same height - so we will know what the beach will look like for the return when we start.

We will leave the Olympic Campout at 9am and drive the very short distance to the parking lot at the trailhead to start hiking.
