Our objective: hike one of the best conditioning hikes around Seattle! Mailbox defines the "short but painful" hike category. Our route up will cover about 4000 feet of elevation in ~2.7 miles; expect to go ballpark 1.0-1.5 mph going up and much faster going down the longer new trail.
Note this is a strenuous hike for this early in the program; please be confident in your ability to ascend 4000 ft. in 2.7 miles, even at a slow pace.
For those who haven't hiked it before, there's a large talus field at the top that has to be crossed; good shoes and patience are required to cross the field safely (and hiking poles can help). Filterable water may be scarce, so make sure to bring enough to complete the whole hike.
We'll meet at 6:45 am at the trailhead, or if you want to carpool, we suggest meeting at Preston P&R for a 6:45 am trailhead arrival. More information will be provided in the Hello Hiker email the week before.
