The main objective is to get a sense of how steepness affects our speed of ascent and descent. This is a good insight to gain as your hiking distance and elevation progress throughout the course. You will be able to manage your speed, water/food-intake, & rest breaks more effectively as you understand the terrain profile and your own responses to them.
This route ascends an average of 880ft per mile or 17% grade, which is between Mt Si Old and New trails. Caltopo route.
On the ascent, we will NOT be aiming to do 2mph but ~1200ft/hr plus or minus 200ft. Consider this hike as a low-stress pacing hike for your "feet per hour."
Please bring poles and micro-spikes.
