This will be a grand tour of all the best spots on Blanchard Mountain in the Chuckanuts.
Starting at the Samish Overlook, we will first hike to the top of Oyster Dome to enjoy sweeping views of Samish Bay and the San Juan Islands. Then we'll duck back into the woods, pass Lily Lake, and hike to the summit of North Butte. This is a higher, rockier, more secluded viewpoint than Oyster Dome, and a nice picnic spot if space is available. After a break, we'll head down to Lizard Lake, passing one of the house-sized, moss-covered boulders you see pictured above. We'll then circle around the east side of the mountain until we reach Lily Lake again, at which point we'll take Max's Shortcut down to where we started at the Samish Overlook. Fun Fact: we will hike 4 miles (0.33%) of the Pacific Northwest Trail on this route... Only 1,196 miles to go!
Check out the route on this Gaia GPS Map, and find out more details by looking at the description for Oyster Dome, North Butte, Lily and Lizard Lake on AllTrails. A Hello Hiker email with more details will be sent out the week before the hike. Feel free to reach out to me via email with any questions in the meantime.
We will meet no later than 7:00AM at the Ash Way Park and Ride in Lynnwood to form carpools. We will then drive together to the Samish Overlook (Lake Samish Rd, Bow, WA 98232) arriving around 8:15AM. We will have our boots and packs on ready to start hiking by 8:30AM.
There are vault toilets available at the trailhead.
