About Basic Backpacking Field Trips

The Basic Backpacking Field Trip is the final scheduled activity of the Basic Backpacking Course.  For most students it will be their first overnight trip in the backcountry.  Basic Backpacking Field Trips are usually single-night trips along Easy or Moderate routes that do not present any unusual technical challenges.

We will be camping approximately 4.5 miles from the trailhead at Pete Lake. We will be moving at a casual pace and will focus on testing our gear and enjoying the outdoors. After setting up camp, we will plan to spend time enjoying and relaxing at the lake.

Multiple emails will be sent out prior to the trip with weather details, gear lists, and other important information.  Please be prepared to camp in both sunny and rainy conditions depending on the forecast. Hazardous conditions may necessitate a change in location or date, which will be communicated by the leader.

We will meet at the North Bend Park & Ride at 7:00AM on Saturday June 7th. From there we will caravan to the trailheadWe will do a preliminary gear check and backpack fitting in the parking lot, before heading out, but will aim to be on trail by ~9:00AM.

A Northwest Forest Pass or Interagency Annual Pass is required to park at the trailhead.
