about this specific trip

Venture along the lovely Greenwater River, flowing waters, rocky outcrops, amazing old growth.  Our proposed camp for the trip is about three miles up river, with minimal elevation gain.  To get there, we will cross the river four times on lovely bridges.  The fifth time likely will require a ford of the river, given expected spring water levels.  This should be no more than knee deep, and leader will bring along a rope to assist with crossing.  Having trekking poles, water shoes, and a towel for drying off afterwards will be highly recommended.  More details will be provided in pre-trip communication.
After the ford, we will venture a bit further to locate and set up our camp.  At this point, the day will still be young, and participants are welcome to join me in a hike towards Lost Lake.  Depending on weather and group interest, on Tuesday morning, we will venture a ways up the other fork in the valley, towards the canyon above the Greenwater.  Traction devices such as microspikes may be helpful depending on the snow we might find on these day hikes from camp.  Returning to camp, we will break it down and head back to the cars, hopefully arriving by mid-late afternoon at the trailhead.

About Basic Backpacking Field Trips

The Basic Backpacking Field Trip, or "student backpack", is the final scheduled activity of the Basic Backpacking Course.   For most students it will be their first overnight trip in the backcountry.  Student backpacks are usually single-night trips along Easy or Moderate routes that do not present any unusual technical challenges.
