This  Seattle Basic Refresher Clinic - Crevasse Rescue - covers the rescue systems used to extract a climber who has fallen into a crevasse while on a Basic glacier climb with two or more rope teams.

Skills to be practiced:

  • Knots used on glacier climbs
  • Prusiking up a climbing rope
  • Pulley rescue systems
  • Safe setup and execution of a rescue system

C-pulley is the default system. We can also practice 3:1 (z-pulley) if time allows.

Not covered: Systems with additional mechanical advantage (5:1, 6:1, 7:1) , 2-person crevasse rescue, rappelling into a crevasse to check on your fallen climber, moving an incapacitated climber to a safe location. If you are planning to instruct WMCR and wanting to review those topics, please attend one of the WMCR instructor review sessions (not this).
