The Seattle Basic Refresher Clinics offer Basic Alpine Climbing graduates, and non-Mountaineer members with equivalent training and experience, the opportunity to review the skills and techniques they learned in the course.
This Seattle Basic Refresher Clinic - Alpine Rock Skills - covers the alpine rock climbing skills. Participants are required to already have the skills either from a Mountaineers course or other experience.
Skills to be practiced:
- Rock climbing (including face climbing, crack climbing, and friction climbing, depending on the climbing area).
- Belaying (top-rope and lead-climbing)
- Rappelling
- Anchor building
5pm Dirty Harry Trailhead.
Required Equipment
Everyone:
- 10 essentials
- helmet
- rock climbing harness
- rock shoes
- approach shoes or hiking boots
- at least 4 locking carabineers
- Double sling or PAS system
- ATC device for rappelling (optional)
- grigri or other ABD (assisted braking device) belay device
- belay gloves (recommended)
- walkie talkie (if you have one)
- backpack to carry your gear and portion of the group gear.
- anchor material (slings or cordelette)
Leaders also bring:
- rope
- quickdraws
I will also bring stick clip and guidebook
