Basic Climbing Refresher

Basic Climbing Refresher allows climbers with Basic climbing skills the opportunity to review and practice Basic Climbing rock and snow skills by participating in a series of clinics. Non-Mountaineers members are welcome if they have the equivalent climbing skills.

Basic Climbing Refresher is a series of clinics for all climbers (members and non-Mountaineer members) having Basic Climbing level training and experience.  Climbing Equivalency candidates are also welcome. This series is an opportunity to learn current best practices, new gear, new techniques and brush up on your skills.

Intermediate students and grads, and moderately experienced Basic grads are also invited to help instruct.

Non-members, and members unable to sign up on-line, will need to contact the leader for sign up for the clinics.

Skill clinics will be offered throughout the year, depending on demand and instructor availability.  

CLINICS:
Belay Skill
s:  a session at the Seattle Program center where you will review knots, and belay skills including tie-off/escape.

Rappel Skills:  a session at the Seattle Program center where you will practice setting up extended rappels using an autoblock.

Crevasse Rescue Skills:  a session at the Seattle Program Center where you will review the crevasse rescue skills currently being taught to Basic Climbing Students.

Rock Skills:  a session at a rock crag  at Leavenworth or Mount Erie where we will set up anchors, belay, climb, rappel.

Snow and Glacier Travel Skills: a  session at a ski area where we will practice crevasse rescue, snow travel and ice axe arrest, and snow anchor building.

Top Rope Anchor Rigging:  a session at the Seattle Program Center to learn how to set up top rope anchors on bolts using SERENE principles.

 

Clinics are casual.  Questions are encouraged on all aspects of climbing. Occasionally a clinic goes off-topic in response to questions and that's no problem.

There is no grading.   No badge is awarded.
