Introduction to Single Pitch Trad B

Introduction to placing traditional gear in a single pitch crack climbing environment.

The application period will run October 29 to November 15. Accepted students will be notified by December 5.

This course is designed to prepare students to learn the skills to lead climb single pitch traditional routes at crags. Students will be given education and mentorship to safely and efficiently place gear on traditionally protected routes. Time will also be dedicated to crack climbing movement and techniques.

Students are required to have led at least 5 bolted routes at the 5.7 level or above. Equivalent indoor experience leading in a gym at the 5.9 level is accepted. Prospective students will be asked to submit a climbing resume upon application.

  • One set of camelots size equivalent to Black Diamond #.3 to #3 (any brand)
  • Full set of nuts (any brand)
  • Helmet
  • Harness
  • Rock shoes
  • 2 personal anchors
  • 6 24 inch alpine slings with 2 wire gate carabiners per sling
  • 3 locking carabiners
  • Auto blocking belay device, i.e. Petzl Reverso, Black Diamond ATC Guide, Edelrid Mega jul
  • Nut tool
  • 20 feet cordalette, 6M nylon, 5M tech cord or spectra
Optional:
  • Smaller Camelots optional; Black Diamond X4, Fixe Alien or any other brand  
  • Chalk bag
  • Crack gloves or 2 rolls of climbing tape
