Introduction to placing traditional gear in a single pitch crack climbing environment.

This course is designed to prepare students to learn the skills to lead climb single pitch traditional routes at crags. Students will be given time and education to safely and efficiently place gear and develop new climbing skills that will help them break into a new type of climbing.

Students must be already leading sport routes (bolted routes) to be eligible for this course.

Required

  • One set of cams size equivalent to Black Diamond #.3 to #3 (any brand)
  • Full set of nuts (any brand)
  • Helmet
  • Harness
  • Rock shoes
  • 2 personal anchors
  • 6 24 inch alpine slings with 2 wire gate carabiners per sling
  • 3 locking carabiners
  • Auto blocking belay device, i.e. Petzl Reverso, Black Diamond ATC Guide, Edelrid Mega jul
  • Nut tool
  • 20 feet cordalette, 6M nylon, 5M tech cord or spectra
Optional:
  • Smaller Camelots optional; Black Diamond X4, Fixe Alien or any other brand  
  • Chalk bag
  • Crack gloves or 2 rolls of climbing tape
