Mountaineers Summer Camp - Olympia

NATURE CREATORS Camp is for campers ages 8-13

For campers ages 8-13, this week of DAY CAMP is filled with hands-on activities and outdoor exploring that focus on learning all about nature in the Pacific Northwest! A new crafty creation will be made each day as we explore beaches, identifying plants, forage for delicious foods, and learn how to protect the land around us as we create lasting art from invasive plants.  After camp,  your child will walk away ready to appreciate and engage in nature! Day camp is Monday - Friday 9:00-4:00 at the Olympia Friends Meeting House.

Basic Schedule:

Monday: The morning will be filled with fun get-to-know-you games as well as focus on learning the essentials to safely explore the outdoors. We will be spending the afternoon learning how to identify popular plants as we explore the local nature park and return to to make our plant creations.

Tuesday:  A day dedicated to learning conservation and stewardship, we will work as a team to provide help cleaning the ivy from trees with the local park rangers. After a refreshing lunch at the beach, we will use the ivy that we cleared from the evergreen trees to create a beautiful wreath and/or photo frame!

Wednesday:  This is a day full of tide exploration and Rock creation! After creating a plankton tow as a team, we will spend the afternoon on the beach learning about the micro creatures that come from the sea.

Thursday: A fun day filled with exploring the marshy wetlands and comparing them to other plants and animals seen throughout the week. We will also be picking a variety of edible plants as we prepare to make delicious afternoon snacks.

Friday: Our final day will be finished with a beach exploration and shell collection in the morning and an afternoon filled with games, nature creations, and delicious nature delights as we end with lessons on Leave No Trace and recycling.
