Mountaineers Summer Camp - Olympia

Wilderness Skills Week - Campers will learn a wide variety of outdoor skills through fun activities, hiking, kayaking, beach exploring, and more!

Camp is Monday-Friday from 9:00-4:00pm at the Olympia Friends Meeting House. Kids ages 6-11 will have a chance to try a variety of outdoor activities and learn a variety of helpful wilderness skills! This week will include a bit of hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, and beach exploration. Your children will learn  skills involving navigation, outdoor cooking, first aid, knots and rope skills, shelter building, and more!

The goal this week will be to focus on all-around skills that will help your child feel safe and confident in the outdoors. No prior  outdoor experience is needed! 

Basic Schedule:

Monday: Day 1: We will play a variety of get-to-know-you games as well as focus on learning the essentials to safely explore the outdoors. We will also jump right into adventures as we head to the local nature park for navigation practice and exploring.

Tuesday: We will be learning Leave No Trace through games and practice in the morning as well as all about beaches and creature identification in the afternoon while exploring the low tides at Burfoot park.

Wednesday:  We will be spending the day learning all about water safety as we go kayaking and swimming at Ken Lake.

Thursday: We will be learning first aid in the morning and outdoor rock climbing in the afternoon.

Friday: We will spend the morning exploring the newts, birds, and all things in nature at McLane Nature Trail, and end the week with shelter building, games, and graduation from camp!
