This clinic will provide practical instruction on usage of tow belts and using long and short tows to assist kayakers in trouble. It will also include various on-water assisted rescue scenarios, risk assessment & mitigation, and discussion of safety equipment, including use of VHF radio.

This clinic is suitable for any basic class graduate who wants to enhance their safety skills as we head into winter paddling season with its less predictable weather and sea state conditions.  This clinic will also satisfy the requirements for an Incident Management course in the Intermediate Kayaking Program log book.
We will launch from Arcadia at high tide and take a warm-up paddle into the mouth of Hammersley Inlet to a beach on the north side.  There we will start with some beach instruction on use of tow lines and talk a bit about the plan for the day.  We will follow with towing exercises and rescue scenarios including rescues in moving water as the ebb current builds.  This will all be conducted with a good safety net and with plenty of instructor assistance.   Be sure to bring snacks, water, lunch.  In anticipation that weather will be cooler, you may also want bring a hot beverage.  And, dress for immersion!  Dry suits required.  See below for full list of required equipment.

Meet at Arcadia Point boat launch sufficiently early to be ready for launch at 8:00 am.   We are working with current and tide timing so please be on time.   Note sunrise on Oct 29 will be 7:50 am.
