We will travel from trailhead to either the base of the winter route or to the top of the route depending on conditions. We will camp using tents or snow shelters. We will climb to the summit if conditions permit. We will practice belays, rappels and rescue methods that build on the classroom sessions  to make each climber confident in their ability in more complex climbing situations.

Saturday morning 0730 at Hoodsport Coffee Company in Hoodsport, WA. We will gather here where there is a cell signal prior to traveling together to the trailhead (or as close as we can get to it).

Required Equipment

Required Equipment

  • 2 Pickets per climber
  • Harness with glacier travel set-up. Locking and non-locking carabiners, belay device, cordelette, crevasse rescue system
  • Avalanche Gear (beacon, shovel, probe) Shovel should be one you can really USE to move snow for campsite prep or digging your emergency shelter. By this I mean a metal one that works well for you.
  • Crampons
  • Winter camping equipment - tent, pad, sleeping bag appropriate to the conditions, cooking equipment accounting for the need to melt snow for drinking and cooking water.
  • Flotation  may be required depending on conditions. We will decide this closer to the date of the trip.
