Climbing Self Rescue-2

Advanced self rescue techniques and methods for getting out of difficult situations

Introduction and practice of advanced rescue techniques focused on two-person teams.

-We focus on rescue of a second who is unable to continue to climb; understanding of forces on the anchor; various mechanical advantage systems including 5:1, 6:1, 7:1 and 9:1.

-We will practice self-extrication techniques with improvised litters using the climbing rope and available gear. 

-We will look at alternative rappel techniques and methods to free/recover a stuck rope following rappel.

This course has no scheduled activities.

Roster
Required Equipment

Climbing harness, helmet and (climbing shoes  for the field trip).

Your climbing rack with the equipment you normally carry, including a cordelette or another method of creating a releasable friction hitch such as a Mariner, Munter-Mariner, Radium Release Hitch, and a carabiner block and tackle.
