This 2 hour evening seminar provides experienced trail runners with information to help them become effective trail running leaders for the Mountaineers.

This 2 hour evening seminar provides experienced trail runners with information to help them become effective trail running leaders for the Mountaineers. This seminar is a prerequisite (along with a mentored trail run and/or committee approval) to becoming an official trail run leader for the club. The workshop is free and open to all Mountaineers members, but please register online here so we can schedule the right number of instructors.

Discussion concerning common leadership decision-making challenges from real-life leader experiences.

Seminar learning outcomes:

  • Ability to determine which kinds of trips you want to lead; knowledge of how to attract and screen participants.
  • Understanding of the expectations and preparation for the role of a trail running leader for the Mountaineers.
  • Preparation and confidence to handle common challenges you will encounter leading groups on the trail.
  • Understanding of the runners you will serve and the Foothills trail running committee and its work and goals.
  • Familiarity with club standards and rules for trail runs and general relevant club procedures for leaders (e.g., steps to take to report an emergency or safety issue). The Mountaineers is fortunate to have many very experienced runners and trip leaders; this seminar's goal is  to familiarize  everyone, regardless of experience level, with the same leadership principles, expectations, and club rules/procedures.
