Let's have fun and enjoy our Licorice Fern Trail GoHike!

Pace:  We will enjoy a comfortable 4.0-mile hike, pacing as a group (averaging 1.5 - 2.0 mph) - no walker will be left behind. We will catch our breath at the top of steep inclines and gather at trail junctions to make sure we are all together and no one gets lost.

Breaks: We will not take a long break, but will break at the Far Country Fall @2 miles for a 15-minute water/snack break and to check in on pace.

Trail Overview: The trail is quite a roller coaster, starting out by descending one side of a narrow ravine, crossing a tiny stream, then hiking up the other side of the ravine. A second ravine descends and ascends around the side of the mountain just after the first.

  • This trail is more challenging than its mileage and elevation gain suggest.
  • I grade it as an easy to moderate hike for new hikers.
  • Poles are recommended if you are unfamiliar with hiking stairs, rolling terrain, or need assistance keeping steady.

We will hike rain or shine unless there are torrential downpours, high winds, or lightning.

A HELLO HIKER email will be sent at 6 pm on 3/22, with more details. Life happens, so if you need to cancel, please do so by this time to allow others on the waitlist to join.

Meeting place, time, and facilities

  • Meeting Location: The trail begins directly from 169th Ave SE (Street Parking only); look for a small hiker sign indicating the trailhead.: Map & Directions. Note: As you enter the trail, you will see three potential routes: one paved on the left, one gravel straight ahead, and a grassy one on the right. Let's meet at this junction - we will be taking the gravel path.
  • Meet Time: 8:45 am, arrive early to gear up and use the facilities
  • Hike Time:  9:00 am, be ready to hike
  • Facilities:  Traditionally, no facilities are available for this hike. But we did see a porta-potty on SE Licorice Way when we hiked it on 1/31/26.
