Family backpacking trip to Cape Alava. Easy boardwalk stroll through the forest and camp with ocean views. Good for all ages, but be sure you are ok with log hopping at the beach:) The trip is contingent on getting permits on 4/15 and may be moved to a different location.

Join us for an unforgettable family-friendly backpacking trip to Cape Alava. This gentle boardwalk trail winds through a lush coastal forest before opening up to stunning ocean views. The flat terrain makes it an ideal trip for kids, with plenty to see and explore along the way.

Trip Details:

🚗 Travel: The trailhead is about a 4-hour drive away. If you'd rather not make the drive in the morning, you can stay at Ozette Campground or Lost Resort, which has campsites available near the trailhead.

🎟️ Permits & Parking:

  • America the Beautiful Pass required for parking.
  • $8 permit fee per adult (kids are free).
  • Bear canisters are required for food storage in Olympic National Park.

What to Expect:

🌲 Saturday: We’ll meet at the trailhead and hike to our forest campsites along the beach. After setting up camp and having a snack, we’ll spend the afternoon exploring the beach, hopping on driftwood logs, and searching for tide pools at low tide.

🏕️ Sunday: After a peaceful night by the ocean, we’ll pack up in the morning and hike back to the trailhead, wrapping up a fun and scenic coastal adventure.

This trip is a great way to introduce kids to backpacking, with a manageable hike, exciting beach exploration, and a chance to experience the magic of Olympic National Park. Come join the adventure!
