Olallie Lake sits in a peaceful alpine basin in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, accessed by trails that pass through forest, mountain meadows, and lakeshore. You’ll hike through classic Cascades scenery to reach a scenic spot ideal for camping, swimming, exploring, and practicing backpacking skills with kids
Trip highlights include:
- A classic Washington backpacking route with manageable terrain for kids and beginners
- Lakeside camping with opportunities to explore the shoreline and enjoy views
- Practice skills including campsite selection, tent setup, cooking, Leave No Trace ethics, and more
- Plenty of time for play, exploration, and optional short side walks around the lakes
Trip Details:
🚗 Travel: The trailhead is about a 1-hour drive away.
🎟️ Permits & Parking: Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass required for parking.
What to Expect
🌲 Saturday:
- Meet at the trailhead in the morning
- Hike to Olallie Lake at a kids-friendly pace
- Set up camp and practice core backpacking skills
- Optional short games, nature exploration, or lakeside play
🏕️ Sunday:
- Morning practice breaking camp and packing out
- Hike back to trailhead and conclude the trip
