This is a beginner’s backpacking trip, giving students the opportunity to try out their gear and apply the skills they've learned in the B3 course. We’ll be exploring the Buckhorn Wilderness in the Olympic National Forest.
On our first day, we'll start hiking at the Tubal Cain trailhead, collect water at Copper Creek, and continue up to our dry camp at Buckhorn Pass (7 miles, 2700' gain). After setting up camp, we can explore the nearby area, including up towards Marmot Pass. On our second day, we'll pack up and descend back to the trailhead (7 miles, 2700' descent).
We'll hike at a moderate pace (1.5-2 mph), and take breaks for snacks, views, and pictures.
Saturday morning at the Tubal Cain Trailhead. Precise time and location will be shared in pre-trip materials.
