This hike differs slightly from the description in the database. Our hike begins at the Slab Camp Creek Trailhead at 2600' feet. We'll hike 3 miles and descend about 1000' feet to Camp Tony where we'll have lunch or a snack. Then we'll hike another 2.4 miles along the Lower Gray Wolf trail to Slide Camp at 2200' where we'll set up camp. Our total mileage will be 5.4 miles to camp. This should be prime time see rhodies in bloom, enjoy the old growth forest and the beautiful Gray Wolf River. Look up "Slab Camp Creek" hike on the WTA website and read the trip reports for details and photos. Please note that getting to the trailhead will require either riding a ferry from Seattle or driving south over the Tacoma Narrows bridge, so be prepared to get up very early on Saturday morning so we begin the hike by 10:00 am. I'll send logistics and other details via email to participants.
These field trips are designed to give B3 students the opportunity to try out gear and new skills with only fellow B3 students on an easy to moderate overnight backpack with an experienced mentor. While this trip can count toward your B3 graduation requirement, they are not meant to be your primary backpack trips to meet that requirement - many more backpack trips will be scheduled through the season for you to join and complete your 3 required trips.
